The thermistor works by decreasing current resistance in a manner that is inversely proportional to the temperature of the thermistor. The PCB sends a current to the thermistor and can tell whether more or less heat is needed by the resistance.

This pair of Ferroli sensors is suitable for use in Combi, Domina, Tempra, Modena and Falcon boilers.  The sensor is employed to increase circuit resistance in line with temperature drops. A boiler's printed control board (PCB) sends a current to the thermistor, deciding whether a decrease or increase in heat is required by reading the relative resistance.
